A disturbing American classic about alienated teenagers, in the tradition of Blackboard Jungle and Rebel Without a Cause. Not seen outside America (and only given a minor showing there) until 1984, the film eventually reached the wider audience it deserved thanks to the increasing popularity of one of its 14-year-old stars, Matt Dillon. A strong, violent and pretty bleak chronicle of the criminal lives of kids with nowhere to go, it's directed by Jonathan Kaplan with a surprisingly keen sense of the American pre-teen's eye-view of modern suburban life.
