A piece of magic based on a true story, and spanning a 20-year friendship. A series of letters wings its way from a struggling American lady writer (Anne Bancroft) to a bookshop owner (Anthony Hopkins) in London. However, despite the closeness generated by their letters, the two never meet which, perhaps, is the ultimate sadness of this absorbing film.
