A group of young friends search for the body of a missing teenager after one of them overhears his older brother claiming to have seen it.
Based on a Stephen King story, this is a simple plot, but there's a lot more to the film than that.
The search for the body becomes something of an odyssey for the boys and more of an adventure than even they expected.
Unusually, the tale is narrated by one of the boys, now in middle age (Richard Dreyfuss).
Not always a device that works, it succeeds here, as it doesn't interfere with or slow down the story.
It's also a very nostalgic film, which is heightened by the 1950s songs used on the soundtrack.
Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix and Kiefer Sutherland head the young cast. John Cusack has a minor role.
