Extremely well performed, scripted, edited and directed, this department store romp offers you a real bargain and doesn't waste a second in telling its tall story.
It's a comedy-farce about a mannequin that, possessed by the spirit of a wayward Egyptian princess (Kim Cattrall), comes to life and helps a loser (Andrew McCarthy) become an ace window-dresser.
The script bulges with original comic characters: Carole Davis as McCarthy's fickle black girlfriend; James Spader as the smarmy store director ready to sell out to a rival from under the tiny feet of owner Estelle Getty; GW Bailey from the 'Police Academy' films, as the hawkish store cop whose bulldog Rambo has a yellow streak right down his brindle back and, best of all, Meshach Taylor as a gay black window-dresser called Hollywood who's sympathetic to every crisis.
'You know what works best for me? ' he tells McCarthy. 'Crying shamelessly'.
You may find yourself laughing shamelessly at this cornball slice of fun that's never lost for a bright idea.
