Massive blows, explosions and assassinations are the order of the day in this assembly-line vehicle about a modern-day bounty hunter, supposedly the grandson of the character played by Steve McQueen in the TV western series of the same title. Dutch actor Rutger Hauer, already sporting a near-perfect American accent, plays the ex-CIA agent recruited by his old bosses to stop an Arab terrorist who plans to blow up half of Los Angeles. Remaining developments are cut to formula, with bludgeoning sentiment, corny situations and a brave attempt by Robert Guillaume to make something out of his cornball dialogue. But like his character, nothing in this film ever quite comes to life.
