'Alien' scriptwriter Dan O'Bannon, and the establishing shots of a bleak, colourless Atlantic seaboard fishing town, combine to make a variation on John Carpenter's horror 'The Fog'. Jack Albertson intriguingly introduces the characters with a suitable portrayal of the ambiguous elderly coroner and undertaker, but the ensuing series of grisly murders is unfortunate. The film progresses to a climax which, even if anticipated, compares to the ending of 'Carrie'. Gruesome, it emerges as an efficient shoker.
