It's non-stop action all the way in actor David Hemmings' fifth film as director. Shot on location in the rugged terrain of New Zealand's South Island, it puts mean and moody Ken Wahl (later to hit the big time as star of the `Wiseguy' TV series) and Donald Pleasence (just moody) as the good guys chasing a 50 million-dollar payroll hidden since 1944 in the wreck of the `Yankee Zephyr' plane. George Peppard is the snarling villain (a throwback to a 1960s spoof) on their tails. There's no denying the energy in the frantically paced production, but it remains unfocussed, and the helicopter chases seemingly go on forever. The original British cinema release title was `Race for the Yankee Zephyr.
