The fourth episode of the Apes saga, full of sound and fury, providing a field day for the colour cameras of Bruce Surtees, who did such a good job on The Outlaw Josey Wales.
Here, he makes colour by De Luxe seem more vivid than ever before, especially in the final fierce battle between apes and men, when the screen is filled with flickering, flaming reds, yellows and browns.
Various elements of the plot strain credibility to the limit - would you believe a circus owner who champions animal emancipation, or that apes could really be trained to do such sophisticated things as filing and cooking in the next 20 years?
However, Roddy McDowall is again on hand as Caesar to sustain our interest and anticipation.
