A serviceable war adventure along the lines of The Dirty Dozen, with Michael Caine leading a unit of ex-convicts on a mission:impossible in World War Two North Africa to destroy a Nazi fuel dump. Although this provides little more than rugged, comic-book action, it has strong, heroic performances from Nigel Green, Harry Andrews and Nigel Davenport. While filming in Spaghetti Western country in Almeria, Spain, Caine bumped into his pal Sean Connery making Shalako.
