In the summer of 1944, top German officers realise that the evil game is up for the Third Reich and hatch a plot to assassinate their Fuhrer. This only moderate wartime action film is a sequel to Sam Peckinpah's 'Cross of Iron', with the same leading character, Sergeant Steiner, here played by a tired-seeming Richard Burton taking over from James Coburn in the 1976 original. This German-made movie boasts plenty of action and big star names (Robert Mitchum, Rod Steiger, Curt Jurgens) but both the story and Andrew V McLaglen's direction are undistinguished.
