Big action film (the one with the famous line:`This has got to be the biggest blow-up since falsies! '), with Kirk Douglas as the daredevil soldier of fortune who's in every military action (`I knew they wouldn't start D-Day without you' says his wife, and they don't) culminating in the Israeli War of 1948. Douglas is rather disappointing, but there's a warmly glowing portrait of the `war widow' from Angie Dickinson, and the ending, with its cleverly underplayed sentiment, is the most moving moment in the film.
