This patchily successful circular anecdote about a chain of people moving house will look more at home on television screens, where its cosy, intimate horror can be appreciated in relaxed style. Even the glare of the big screen though couldn't take the shine off some gorgeous performances, especially by Judy Parfitt, John Rowe, Billie Whitelaw and Nigel Hawthorne, the latter a scream as a man who strips his home of every light bulb before moving out (we've all met 'em). Jack Rosenthal, here driving home the old familiar message about happiness being found in your own back yard, has written better scripts, but the subtlety of the performances, plus Stanley Myers' lilting music, sees it home with room to spare.
