A really creepy thriller along diabolical-plot lines. The story revolves round a young man whose psychosomatic blindness stems from an accident that occurred months before, when a fire killed his father and disfigured his sister (extremely well played by Julie Harris). When he returns from hospital after treatment for his depressed mental condition, he becomes tormented by strange voices and near-fatal accidents. He becomes convinced that someone is trying to kill him. How Awful About Allan was one of the earliest television films but remains one of the best. It is skilfully directed by Curtis Harrington (who made Games and Whatever Happened to Helen? for the cinema) whose many Hitchcock-like devices are guaranteed to send shivers up the toughest spine. And the teleplay is by Henry Farrell, who wrote Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte. Definitely not one to watch alone.
