A veteran director of westerns (from TV's Rawhide to Clint Eastwood's Hang 'em High), Ted Post here utilises a western town setting to eerie effect in a genuinely creepy science-fiction tale which, in its best sequences, is strongly reminiscent of Don Siegel's Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
