'Burn rubber, not your soul,' is the motto of the Black Knights, a bike-gang that stages illegal speed races through the streets of Southern California.
These Biker Boyz are speed freaks, challenging each other and rival crews to races, to claim to 'lid' of the losing rider. Bike fans will be in their element - others might be bored out of their minds.
As leader of the Black Knights, Smoke (a chubby looking Laurence Fishburne) holds the hotly contested crown of 'king of Cali'. He's a mean mo-fo and faces a challenge from young gun Kid (Antwone Fisher's Derek Luke) who blames him for his dad being decapitated by a flying bike when one of Smoke's races went horribly wrong.
Expect was Will (ER's Eriq LaSalle looking out of place) really his dad? Cue a Star Wars-esque clash as Kid and Smoke fall-out and soul searching moments as Kid's mum reveals a secret.
Vanessa Bell Calloway gives the film's best performance as the widowed mother.
Among the fast action, including cool, acrobatic stunts and even cooler bike-surfing, there's an emotional family story that slows down the pace but for some will give the movie a bit more of a heart.
The 4th Annual Bikini Bike Wash that the Black Knights stage can't go without mention, as it's got to be the best way to raise money for charity I've heard all year. A great way to get your Harley spick and span.
