The former music video director made his feature debut with the mock documentary The Calcium Kid with Orlando Bloom.

After working as a personal assistant on commercials in London, De Ratoff went on to director videos for more than 50 artists including Ice T and Space.

Citing Martin Scorcese and Luc Besson as influences, his first film was the short James Drabinsky, starring Mia Kirschner.

He also directED the action game Grand Theft Auto 2.
