The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone

A new film version of Tennessee Williams's novella, about a middle-aged actress who travels to Rome and falls for an Italian gigolo. Helen Mirren (as the actress), Olivier Martinez (as the gigolo), Anne Bancroft, Maggie Smith and Brian Dennehy produce enjoyable performances, but the tale was better told in the 1961 film starring Vivien Leigh and Warren Beatty.
