French post-impressionist painter Paul Gaugin (Kiefer Sutherland) gave up not only his job as a stockbroker, but also his wife (Nastassja Kinski) and children, in order to devote himself to art (and another woman) on the remote Pacific island of Tahiti. Sutherland is fine as the single-minded artist, but the flashback-heavy style means there are few surprises. Alun Armstrong co-stars as fellow artist Camille Pissaro.
