Mira Nair - director of Monsoon Wedding - wittily captures the Eighties spirit in this sharply observed but depressing drama. Uma Thurman and Juliette Lewis struggle to find Mr Right in the local bar - but one's highly strung temperament and the other's child both get in the way. Meanwhile, mother Gena Rowlands has a romance of her own.
