The Mermaid Chair

Kim Basinger plays Jessie, a woman who seemingly has it all - a beautiful house and a doting husband. When her mother inexplicably starts cutting off her own fingers, Jessie returns to her childhood home to discover the cause of the bizarre behaviour. Once there, she rediscovers her passion for art, learns the truth about her past and finds love with a Benedictine monk. Fine acting and assured direction turn the odd-sounding premise of Susan Monk-Kidd's novel into a rewarding experience.
