Kern made his feature debut in the Austrian art house movie Die Jungfrau.

He followed this up with the romantic drama Love The Hard Way with Adrien Brody and the forgetable comedy Super Troopers.

Kern had a minor role in Austin Chick's disturbing romantic thriller XX/YY and the fashion drama Garmento.

His profile was raised by the cult horror movie Cabin Fever and he also starred in the skating yarn Grind.
