With an unfamiliar cast to give a more realistic approach, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland (of The Beach fame) have created a chilling apocalyptic horror. Jim (Cillian Murphy) awakes from a coma in hospital to find the place deserted and London a ghost town. He wanders around aimlessly unsure of what disaster has occurred until he unwittingly awakens a group of 'madmen' who chase him. He is rescued by Selena (Naomie Harris) who tells him the truth - that a deadly virus called Rage has infected most of the population, turning them into killers. So they team up and begin the search for a safe haven and maybe some answers too. Very much in the ilk of The Omega Man or John Wyndham's The Day of the Triffids, this kind of end of the world scenario is not to everyone's taste but it is fantastically made, totally chilling and offers a disturbingly prophetic nightmare vision. This extended version of Boyle's thriller adds a different ending to the theatrical release.
