Damian and his older brother Anthony move to England's North West with their dad (Nesbitt) following the death of their mother - a fact Anthony likes to share with people when it's time to pay for something.
They settle in ok at their new school and seem to be fitting in as normal... until Damian happens upon a big bag containing over £200,000 in cash.
Rather than see all that pound sterling go to waste, the pair decide to keep it quiet from dad and embark on a spending spree that Elton John would be proud of before it becomes worthless at the end of the week.
Suddenly the boys are the talk of the playground as kind-hearted Damian likes to share his newfound wealth with, well, just about anyone.
His friends get designer sunglasses and the homeless get fed while his brother opts for a more sensible approach.
Displaying a canny business sense beyond his years, Anthony decides he'd rather invest the money in a property but finds it difficult to do so without letting slip to dad.
He needn't worry about that though as Damian effectively does it for him by donating a huge wedge of notes to Dorothy (Daisy Donovan) who's come to their school to raise awareness about the imminent currency conversion and also collect money to make wells in Africa.
But if the boys think they're in for a rough ride with dad and the school, they've got another think coming as the bag's owner turns up to let them know what'll happen to them if they don't return his money in full...
A sentimental story that has its heart in the right place, Millions boasts a wry British sense of humour and great performances from its young stars who contribute to the fuzzy charm of this feel-good movie.
