Take 7 FBI agents on a serial killer profiling course, dump them on a deserted island and tell them that they have to track down an imaginary murderer, and then discover one of the party is a real life serial killer. That's the premise here, and you'd be forgiven if you thought you recognised the idea from an Agatha Christie story (And Then There Were None... ) because that seems to be the main inspiration here. Unfortunately, director Renny Harlin substitutes Christie's interest in what motivates people for a more gory fascination with the different ways to kill one-dimensional characters. There's a superb cast here - Val Kilmer, Christian Slater, Jonny Lee Miller (with a truly bad accent) and Kathryn Morris (Cold Case) - but no-one stands out and the general impression is that they're all mostly sleepwalking through the overly complex script. Oh, and could someone please explain how one serial killer could build so many incredibly technical murder scenarios so quickly? A wasted opportunity for something that could have been so much better.
