The Shawshank Redemption
Tim Robbins' innocent banker convicted of murdering his wife forms an unlikely friendship with Morgan Freeman's seasoned old lag. Practically ignored when it was released in 1994, this is now a firm favourite with generations of cinemagoers thanks its lean storytelling and engaging performances. It's a good, old-fashioned word-of-mouth yarn and you cannot help but root for the unfortunate Robbins as he fights off the prison nasties and bullying warders.
Fantastic! One of the best films ever. If you haven't seen it what have you been doing?

Probably one of the best films ever made.

The Best Film Ever Made
Anthony
A solid, satisfactory performance by Freeman as the old hand who befriends Robbins and guides him with words of wisdom through the cesspool that is Solitary, giving him hope which Robbins pays back in a gut-searing, timeless act of friendship. Best line: "Hope is a good thing and no good thing ever dies."
