Told from the American perspective, this period drama, set in the early 1900s, focuses on three very different women and how, in 1914, they came together to fight for the Suffragette cause, putting their lives at risk to gain the right to vote and to obtain the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
It took them six years and they had to battle a prejudiced President (Wilson, played by Bob Gunton) and a public outraged that they were demanding the vote at a time when American men were dying on the fields of Belgium in 1917.
The film bravely uses a modern soundtrack and some interesting filming techniques to add a bit of spice to its historical storyline and the cast, which includes Hilary Swank, Anjelica Huston and Julia Ormond, are all excellent.
