Your teenage years can be hard enough when you fit in, but for oddball farmer's boy Duncan Mudge (a beautiful performance by Emile Hirsch), life is hell. His beloved mother has unexpectedly died, his father (Richard Jenkins from Six Feet Under) is becoming increasingly distant, and his only friend is his pet chicken who rides with him around the countryside. Taunted by the local boys for being weird and sensitive, he lives an isolated life, until he befriends a neighbour, Perry (Tom Guiry). Intensely moving and at times difficult to watch, this is a leisurely but richly-textured portrait of a young boy's search for love and acceptance, adapted from an award-winning screenplay by writer-director Michael Burke.
