A treat for blues lovers, if less appealing for others, this concert film documents one night in 2003 when a galaxy of musicians gathered in New York City to celebrate 100 years of the blues. Everyone who was anyone was there --- quips blues star Dr John, "It looks like they looked in the Yellow Pages under 'Blues'". Most of the film is taken up with the stage performances, featuring a host of singers including the legendary BB King, Buddy Guy and Robert Cray. These are interspersed with the musicians' reflections on what the blues means to them, while archive footage --- shown on huge screens on stage --- offers a succinct history lesson. Beautifully shot, and with an overwhelming atmosphere of love whenever those old-timers are on stage, this is a must-see film for fans of the blues.
