Leo McCarey won an Academy Award for his direction of this smart and very funny romantic comedy.
Screenwriter Vina Delmar, with assistance from McCarey himself, took a 15-year-old stage farce and brought it up as fresh as paint, while Cary Grant and Irene Dunne play with pleasure and consummate timing as the divorcing couple who are clearly going to survive any amount of madcap antics and hairsbreadth escapes from embarrassment to get back together in the end.
As those who nearly come between them, Ralph Bellamy and Molly Lamont, the latter an English actress who never quite made Hollywood stardom, play difficult roles with considerable panache.
