Junkie Ruth (Laura Dern) becomes a cause celebre for anti-abortionists when she falls pregnant for a fifth time and is initially advised by a judge to go for a termination. Pro-choice campaigners take a stand against the 'Babysavers' organisation in this thoughtful satire that also features Swoosie Kurtz, Kelly Preston, Tippi Hedren (whose finest moment was in Hitchcock's 1963 classic The Birds) and Burt Reynolds. .
