It's the end of the American Civil War and a gang of losing Confederate soldiers (including Grey's Anatomy's Isaiah Washington and E. T.' s Henry Thomas) rob a bank and hide out in a spooky mansion where something nasty is out to get them. Despite a cliché-ridden plot, this ghostly horror is lifted out of the ordinary by the exceedingly deft direction of director Alex Turner. He understands the importance of dread, so instead of fountains of gore, we get a few select special effects and a lot of scares caused by creepy nasties, a great score and sudden, unexpected plot twists.
