Although unnecessary, this watered-down TV movie remake of the admired Sixties psychological horror movie classic still has the power to entertain. The real-life sisters Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave, who play the film's feuding siblings Blanche and Jane Hudson, would seem to be naturals for the Grand Guignol tone of this classic story of lives lingering on after Hollywood stardom. And, although they can't erase the memory of the 1962 original with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, their performances are totally chilling and gripping. The co-producer is William Aldrich, son of the original director Robert.
