An interesting, if cold variation on the themes of dependence, manipulation and self-delusion. Hugo Weaving, the Australian actor who later played opposite Terence Stamp in The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Phil Collins in Frauds, made an early career impression as the blind photographer who enjoys edgy relationships with his cleaning lady (who would like to seduce him) and and a guileless young restaurant worker who describes the photographs Martin takes. These are all faintly unpleasant people, but their story is so cleverly constructed by director Jocelyn Moorehouse that you stay hooked to see how it will turn out.
