Britain's Craig/Bentley case of 1952 was an emotive issue at the time, and it still was 40 years later. It seemed then that everybody knew there had been a miscarriage of justice, even without the knowledge that the 19-year-old Bentley was an epileptic with a mental age of 11. This is largely a solid and careful reconstruction of Bentley's background and the events that led to his conviction. Bentley was much under the influence of 16-year-old tearaway Christopher Craig, and both were caught on the roof of a Croydon warehouse by police. Craig pulled a gun, the police told him to hand it over, Bentley allegedly shouted 'Let him have it, Chris' and a policeman was shot dead. The whole case for the murder charge against Bentley hinged on those words, and to this day their meaning looks as 50/50 as it did then. The acting, especially from Christopher Eccleston and Paul Reynolds as the teenagers, couldn't be bettered. See it for sure, and shake your head that it ever happened.
