Bob Hoskins must be used to acting with someone who isn't there. First a white cartoon rabbit, now a black ghost, in the form of a criminals' lawyer whose heart he has. Hoskins is a cop who's had a heart attack, Denzel Washington the lawyer who wants him to solve a murder - his. Result: an okay movie, but one that doesn't exactly grip the attention throughout. Hoskins gives his familiar blustering, perspiring, hard-cursing performance; Washington is less effective than in some of his roles; and Chloe Webb is negligible as the girl they both love. When Hoskins is 'transformed' with the help of Washington's money, it's amusing that - even with hand-tailored suits and a toupee - he still looks the same old Hoskins.
