This true story about a fairy tale marriage which goes horribly wrong, is a gripping made-for-television feature. It stars Chris Cooper as a political golden boy whose career lies in tatters when he divorces his wealthy wife to marry an ice-cream waitress from the other side of the tracks. She is played by L. A. Law's Susan Dey. whom Seventies teeny-boppers will also remember her from The Patridge Family. What on the surface seems like a Cinderella story ends in horror as Cooper becomes physically abusive towards his new wife and her children. Coupled with his excessive use of drugs, womanising and rumoured homosexuality (and you thought you had problems) the Dey character is forced to take drastic action. Screnwriter John Ireland has used news stories, public documents and a book entitled Deadly Blessing (written by Steve Salerno) to forge his story and director William A Graham, working solely on location in the Lone Star State, cranks up the fear factor to good effect.
