At first, the only unusual aspect of the case is that the pilot was a woman (Meg Ryan).
But worrying discrepancies start to spring up in the stories of her surviving crew.
Under pressure, one dubs her a hero, the other a coward. The resolution couldn't be more moving, agonising or dramatically satisfying.
Finally, the film says a great deal about the different kinds of courage needed to survive.
