Jennifer Garner

Born: April 17th 1972
Where: Houston, Texas

The former ballerina and trainee chemist is probably best known for the role of Elektra opposite Ben Affleck in Daredevil.

However, she is equally at home with light comedy (13 Going On 30), drama (Catch Me If You Can) and action thrillers (US TV's Alias).

"I started out as a ballet dancer and that gives you a certain amount of discipline and a certain understanding of your body and pushing your limitations."

The daughter of a teacher and a chemical engineer, Garner originally pursued a training in ballet before switching to drama from a chemistry degree at Denison University.

While taking a number of low-paid jobs, including hostessing at Isabella's Restaurant in New York, she landed her first role in the TV series Zoya.

She also made an impression on stage and was made the understudy for the Broadway revival of A Month in the Country, starring Helen Mirren.

In 1996 she was given a guest role on an episode of the Swift Justice, and after a few more TV outings, Garner's first movie role came along.

She had a cameo appearance in Woody Allen's Deconstructing Harry, which led almost immediately to more film work.

An appearance in the comedy Mister Magoo was followed by further TV work - in shape of a regular role on the short-lived series Significant Others.

In 1998 Garner had a regular role on the TV series Felicity, where she met her future husband, co-star Scott Foley.

The Party of Five spin-off series The Time of Your Life was Garner's next project which placed her next to Jennifer Love Hewitt on screen.

In 2000, she played Ashton Kutcher's girlfriend in Dude, Where's My Car?, and then featured in one of the most expensive and most successful movies of all time, Pearl Harbour, in which she played a nurse.

In 2002, Steven Spielberg cast her in the enjoyable crime caper Catch Me If You Can and the following year she was cast in the comic hero blockbuster Daredevil.

Switching genres, she starred as a 13-year-old girl transformed into her older, 30-year-old self in the superior rom-com 13 Going on 30.

In 2004, she reprised her role as Elektra in the big screen spin-off starring alongside Goran Visnjic.
