An elegant and sparklingly written account of the playwright Oscar Wilde's fall from grace, after his scandalous affair with young aristocrat Bosie (Jude Law), which led to a court case and Wilde's imprisonment for two years. Huge, glittering and doomed, Stephen Fry is excellent throughout in a complex, difficult role. Full of Wildean wit, the narrative rambles a tad in the middle, but it gathers momentum and emotional impact again towards the end and delivers the sharpest look yet at this great writer and gay icon. Orlando (Legolas) Bloom makes his movie debut as a rent boy!
