This French romantic drama with mystery undertones is certainly unconventional, and director Gilles Mimouni is determined to confound your expectations of his characters' fates. The story starts off like a Hitchcock, although in the end it pursues its own curious course. Max (Vincent Cassel) is about to be married to plainish Muriel (Sandrine Kiberlain), on the rebound from the great love of his life, Lisa (Monica Bellucci) who seemingly deserted him some months before. Overhearing a girl in a phone box haranguing her lover for what she thinks is the murder of his wife, Max believes it to be Lisa, pursues her, loses her, finds a key... It's at this point that a third girl (Romane Bohringer) turns out to be involved in the story... Bellucci and Bohringer are stunning young stars with talent to match, although the film is stolen by Jean-Philippe Ecoffey as Max's show salesman friend - and another thread in the mystery. All this is intriguing if taken a bit too far, with generous helpings of sex thrown in. Confused you will be, but it's worth the headache.
