About as mega-weird as you'd expect of a film by David Cronenberg, this makes little sense until the final scene, when it makes perfect sense. It's the future, and inter-active games have developed to a point where a cord inserted into your spinal 'bioport' and attached to a pod 'made from amphibian eggs stuffed with DNA' transports simultaneous participants into a nightmare game that only one can win. The game's inventor (Jennifer Jason Leigh) joins in the first demonstration of it, but is then wounded in an assassination attempt. On the run with bodyguard Ted (Jude Law), she discovers the bullet in her shoulder is a human tooth... Lots of disgusting bits, as you'd anticipate from this director, mostly involving the mutated amphibians bred to make parts for the game. If the acting sometimes seems artificial, well... you'll have to wait to see the film to find out why. Diverting fare for fantasy freaks.
