Al Pacino gives a tour-de-force as a canny old American Football coach, who --- apparently --- meets his match in Cameron Diaz, a witch of a new club owner. But Pacino's got other problems: his star quarterback Dennis Quaid is injured and ailing, his medic James Woods is a crook and his young new would-be star (Jamie Foxx) is an arrogant wild card of a player. Director Oliver Stone atones for his past sins like Natural Born Killers by making a scalding masterwork out of this first major movie about American football in a couple of decades. A high-kicking, top-scoring hit.
