Stunningly-shot, this is a war adventure with attitude. The setting is the end of the 1991 Gulf War, where 'camel jockey' is an accepted term, but 'dune coon' is offensive; that sets the tone for cracks at the Bush regime, US military policy and more. Mavericks George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube and Spike Jonze come across a treasure map (concealed in a prisoner's rear end! ) and cross into enemy territory determined to get rich. But it's not that simple and things get pretty nasty... Over-use of slow motion sometimes spoils the action scenes, but the acting, particularly from Clooney, is ruggedly fine and the upbeat ending welcome.
