Narrated by Elton John, the film features a cast packed with stars featuring Oscar winner Kevin Kline and nominee Kenneth Branagh.
Set in 16th-century Spain, two eccentric con artists, Tulio (Kline) and Miguel (Branagh), strike it lucky when they win a sacred map charting the way to El Dorado, the lost City of Gold.
The two see it as their ticket both to adventure and an enormous fortune.
There's only one problem - they've wound up imprisoned on a ship of the evil Spanish explorer Cortes (Jim Cummings).
After a daring escape, with the help of a clever war horse named Altivo, they manage to stumble onto El Dorado, only to find their troubles are just beginning.
As they stumble into this lush and vibrant rainforest filled with exotic animals, and hidden waterfalls, the pair are hailed as gods by a group of Mayan natives, and are led into the heart of the city for a special welcoming ceremony.
There they meet the adorable Chel (Perez), a con artist herself, who matches them con-for-con.
As time runs out, the two friends must choose whether they will stay and enjoy life in the magical city of El Dorado or make off with the gold and return to Western culture as rich men.
The animated adventure reunites the Oscar-winning musical team from The Lion King - songwriters Elton John and Tim Rice, and composer Hans Zimmer.
This is an enjoyably witty and vividly colourful film, with some amusing jokes and plenty of slapstick adventure to make the movie entertaining.
Branagh and Kline work well together and inject some great comic moments in the movie.
