Here's the Gallic riposte to Se7en, and a typically offbeat one. Two of France's finest eccentric actors, Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel, are cops working on different cases - a grisly murder at a mountain region college and the desecration of a cemetery by skinheads. Soon they meet and join forces to solve the dark and devious mystery behind it all, while more killings take place. Despite this clever and promising set-up, the atmospheric snowy locations and a series of marvellously credible crime-scene details, the movie starts gets really cheesy about halfway, and then just falls apart in risible, alienating developments.
