This fey attempt to broaden Sixties child star Hayley Mills' image towards adult roles was directed by her dad, John Mills, and co-written by her mum, Mary Hayley Bell. Everyone speaks in fake rural accents but Hayley gives a spirited turn as the simple-minded 17-year-old girl who falls for gypsy Ian McShane and the English countryside is prettily photographed. Annette Crosbie (One Foot in the Grave) also scores as Hayley's gin-sodden mother.
