Peter Wollen, who has written some interesting books on the cinema for film students, here makes one of his rare appearances as a filmmaker with an adaptation of one of his own short stories: a political drama masquerading as science-fiction. In actuality, it runs more like an adaptation of a one-act play; Bill Paterson and Tilda Swinton give good performances as the cynical reporter and the alien called Friendship, and the ending is neat.
