David Mackenzie
Born: Perthshire, Scotland
Mackenzie's stock has risen considerably with his second self-written feature Young Adam, starring Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton and Peter Mullan.
His big screen debut was the bizarre Scottish road movie The Last Great Wilderness, starring his brother Alastair and Jonny Phillips.
Early work included the shorts California Sunshine, Two Fingers - A Portrait of an Awkward Bastard and Beer Goggles.
"I’m not trying to wear the influences too heavily on my sleeve... but I’ve seen a lot of films."
In 2005, he adapted the Patrick McGrath novel Asylum for the big screen, starring Ian McKellen and Natasha Richardson.
