Jack Robinson (Matthew Modine) is the super-rich head of a huge company. But there is a family curse: no male Robinson lives far beyond 40 and Jack is 37... Meanwhile, the skeleton of a giant is unearthed on land owned by jack's company. It turns out that Jack's ancestor was the Jack who climbed the beanstalk. His theft of the fabled harp and the golden egg-laying goose was the source of the family fortune and the reason for the curse. So it's now up to the modern Jack to return the stolen items to the giants and lift the curse. This is a thoroughly enjoyable take on the old fairy story: well written, well acted and not just aimed at children. The special effects are top drawer and there's a stellar cast backing Jack: Vaness Redgrave, Mia Sara, Jon Voight, and Richard Attenborough among them. Enormous fun.
