Andrew Litvack

The writer-director made his big screen debut with the Merchant-Ivory produced Franch farce Merci Dr Rey.
After graduating from from Williams College in 1987. Litvack moved to Paris where he earned a living subtitling French films into English.
Titles included works by Jean-Luc Godard, André Techiné and Youssef Chahine.
In 1992, he acted as assistant to Youssef Chahine the play Caligula by Camus at the Comedie Française.
Litvack met Ismail Merchant and James Ivory via Humbert Balsan, Chahine's producer (and long-time Merchant Ivory collaborator).
He worked with James Ivory on Jefferson in Paris and A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries and with Ismail Merchant on The Proprietor.
